POOL CLOSING 2006

Chardonnay’s Pool Closing was held on Monday, September 4, 2006 with forty-eight (48) people attending.
The Social Committee prepared a big event for this occasion. They hired a couple hula dancers from the islands:

Eileen from Kenny Aland
Charlene from Arlene

Those of you who did not attend don’t know what you missed. The girls were terrific and they could really swing those hips!

Interviewer, Rhoda Wheeler, asked these girls several questions about themselves and did she get some revealing answers.

If you meet these girls in the community – Charlene answers to the name of Chuck Gerhardstein and Eileen answers to the name of Ken Allen.

FROM THE BOARD

SUMMER IS OVER! The long, hot summer has come to an end. Some think it should have been longer. Much has been accomplished particularly on our social calendar. The pool opening and pool closing parties, the Wednesday night “Happenings”, and the weekend hot dog lunches have been enjoyed by many. The ice cream social with Trisha Macke was a big success. Euchre night and the art classes have been well attended. The auction success surprised us, and we have replaced the carpet in the clubhouse.

However, it’s time to begin to think about the fall. On Chardonnay’s agenda is the completion of some of the jobs started this summer; such as the sealing of the streets and the painting of buildings #17, 1, 2, and 3. We must prepare the 2007 budget and are planning on reviewing and revising our policies, rules, and regulations. Mostly, these documents are not bad or obsolete, just unorganized as they have grown piecemeal over the last six-plus years. We will be doing some fall landscaping and it is not too early to consider serving as a board member next year. Some one will be knocking on your door soon about this.

A big project for this fall is the replacement of the mulch around the air-conditioners with gravel. We are planning to do this with labor provided by the residents of Chardonnay. The work will be done over the September 29-30 weekend. We need several volunteers because the more workers we can get the easier it will be for all workers.

I have been asked to remind people that Chardonnay Drive is NOT a trash bin. I know most residents are mature and responsible enough not to contaminate their environment. But we apparently have a few “pigs” who think it is okay to spoil our neighborhood, and that the streets will clean themselves up. It doesn’t work that way. Clean up is done by a few of our older residents who walk the drive and pick up your trash. Please give them a break. They have better things to do.

Alan Hahn, Treasurer

CHARDONNAY AT WORK

STREET TURNOVER TO CITY - The board is waiting on Fischer’s response before proceeding. Since this is progressing at such a slow pace, we may have to take a more forceful approach.

TERRACE HALL CHANDELIERS - This project is complete except for one building which should be installed by the end of the month.

EXTERIOR PAINTING – The painters will start this project on Monday, September 25 for buildings 1, 2, 3, and 17.

INTERIOR PAINTING – Buildings 1, 2, and 3 will be done during the winter months.

SEALING STREET EDGES – This was done in August, but a few items were missed and are being completed by the end of September.

GRAVEL AROUND AIR CONDITIONERS – To be completed on the weekend of September 29.

VILLA SCREEN DOORS - The board is working on a generic permit to allow villa owners to install screen doors.

2007 BUDGET – Committees are in the process of submitting their budget to the board and Towne Properties is getting bids for the 2007 contracts. There will be a special meeting in late October to explain the budget and it will be approved at the November Board Meeting.

CHARDONNAY RUG - Marge Rauch is getting this cleaned for $48.00.

CLUBHOUSE COORDINATOR – Rhonda Brandt has accepted the Clubhouse Co-Coordinator position for the period of December 1 to May 1.

IRRIGATION SYSTEM - Will be turned off at the end of October.

CHARDONNAY POLICIES – The Board is currently reviewing and updating all Chardonnay Policies.

WATER TURNOFFS – The outside faucet must be turned off in November for the winter months. The turnoff valve for the 12-unit terrace buildings is located in Units 101 & 104 and in the 10-unit buildings in Units 201 & 204. Villa building turn offs are in the end units of each building. Jim Remley will be calling these residents before November 1.

ARCHITECTURAL-MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE - Is currently getting estimates to complete a picnic area behind the Clubhouse. They are also looking for an area to build a storage building that would be handy and could fit into the current décor.

WELCOME COMMITTEE – Gail Hewitt has been added as a new member of this committee.

THANKS

PAUL FORD & BOB WHEELER – for keeping the pool conditioned during the extended two weeks.

RON CULP – for preparing the Maintenance Logs for the past years.

Mr. Chardy,
What is the procedure for having a garage sale within the Chardonnay Community?

You may have a garage sale at Chardonnay if you keep it confined to your driveway. It cannot extend to a common area or another person’s property. You must get a permit from the City of Cold Spring which costs $5.00 and if you want a sign in front of your house, there is a $10.00 charge with $5.00 returned when you return the sign.

MEET YOUR NEW NEIGHBORS

JUDY MARTIN – She is a sister and an aunt, a great aunt and a friend. All of these relationships give her a chance to share with others. Her vocation is teacher which she has been doing for 35 years from 6th grade through college. For the past 12 years, she has been a mathematics instructor at McNicholas High School.

She grew up in Covington and is very happy to be back in Kentucky after 10 years living on the east side of Cincinnati. All of her nine brothers and sisters live in Northern Kentucky. Her hobbies are reading, nature, walking and her family.

She says this is a beautiful comfortable place to live and she is so ready to enjoy it.

KEN & PAT REIS – They say it seems like only yesterday that they were walking down the isle at Old St. Joseph Church to begin 50 years together. They have been blessed with four children and 10 grandchildren.

Ken was a plumber for 48 years and Pat worked some and was a housewife. She collects magnets and Ken works with his tools.

They hope to continue their happy years here at Chardonnay along with all the nice people they have met.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE

First, I would like to report on the August auction. It was the first time we tried this and we were amazed, not only at the great donations, which was 153 items, but of the large crowd that showed that night. We had a fantastic auctioneer, Bob Wheeler, who really kept the night moving and the bidding going. Marilyn Jenner kept everything straight by entering all the items and labeling into her computer. Rhoda Wheeler helped Marilyn with the items sold and collecting the cash at the end of the night. Last but certainly not least to Marge Rauch, Mary Gates, Pat Bibbins, Pat Malloy and Betty Barnes who helped with everything that kept the night rolling smoothly. The profits will go for a major project for the clubhouse with the approval of the Board.

Our next function was the pool closing. We had about 45 people present. Our two beautiful hula dancers were Chuck Gerhardstein, who came fully prepared with painted toenails and fingernails and Ken Allen who really got into the swing of things. They both were great and had everyone laughing. I think both Chuck and Ken enjoyed their 5 minutes (or longer) of fame!!!

Now for the events planned for October – first we have our WINE TASTING, which will be held on October 13th at 7 PM at the clubhouse. This will be conducted by the Stone Brook Winery, who will bring six different wines for us to experiment with that night. The committee will serve several cheeses, crackers and grapes to go with your wine. We will have a few nice door prizes. The cost will be $5.00 per person.

Then there will be a HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY – held on October 27th at 7 PM at the clubhouse. Costumes are not required, but for those who still love dressing for the occasion, there will be a prize for the best costume. Free soft drinks, and bring your own bottle if you like. For food, we ask that you bring an hor d’oeuvre to share.

I want to thank all the people who always volunteer their time, help, skills and money to make all our events a success. Without them we would not have any social get-togethers. We’ve had several new homeowners joining us this year. Our community is a very special place to live, and as always, we encourage all our homeowners to come and join us in all of our functions.

Pat Rummel, Chairperson

PUZZLE

How many families have lived at and moved from Chardonnay?

Answer to last months puzzle: Mansion of Happiness was the first board game sold in the United States in 1843.

There were two correct answers, but I can only remember the name of one so I will not list any names. Sorry – another one of my senior moments.

SYMPATHY

The Chardonnay residents would like to extend sympathy to Pat Rummel in the loss of her Mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
