IN LOVING MEMORY FOR TWO OF OUR FRIENDS
ADELENE MULLINS
AND
BETTY BARNES

Our Adelene was taken away from her family and friends very quickly due to unusual complications on Tuesday October 3rd, and laid to rest that following Friday.

For those few who did not know Adelene, she was the creator and editor and chief of your Grapevine Newsletter. In addition to her never-ending drive to make the Grapevine always interesting, she also was a devoted member of the Chain Gang and our Historian. Adelene volunteered her time and talent to all our community events.

Her husband Trulin and their children, Steve, Patty, Peggy and all their grandchildren are a testament to her giving love as a wife, mother and grandmother.

Betty as most of you know has been fighting the battle with cancer for the last two years. Unfortunately the battle was lost Tuesday morning October 10th. She was laid to rest Thursday after a mass was said for her at St. Joseph’s Church in Cold Spring.

Betty was one of the original members, along with Adelene, of the Social Club who organized it and made it what it is today. Betty was very active in the Chain Gang also and like Adelene devoted a lot of herself to this community. Betty had a very special way of making any newcomer to Chardonnay feel as if they’ve been here for years.

Betty was fortunate to have her Ned, who was there for her every minute of her long battle along with their children Amy, John, Lisa and grandchildren. Yet another testament of the loving bonds of family.

We will miss, but always keep in our hearts, our two friends. They both were great leaders in our community and Chardonnay was fortunate to have them in our lives.

Now God has them in his loving family, where they will shine as his two brightest stars.

With Loving Hearts,
Your Chardonnay Family

Ode to Betty

A friend to so many, beloved by us all
You were always there, whenever we called.
Even during your illness, you wanted to do more
Explaining to us - That's what friends are for.

We can never replace - A treasure like you
We'll cherish the memories - Real friends are so few.
We thank you for caring - You were brave to the end.
Just know that we'll miss you - We loved you, dear friend

FROM RICK AND PAT RUMMEL

Rick and I would like to thank every one of our friends at Chardonnay for their thoughtfulness and prayers when I loss my mother. We feel so lucky to have so many loving friends.

Our Love and Thanks
Pat and Rick

Ode to Adelene

We had a lot in common
We shared a lot of fun
It ended all of a sudden
Your work on earth was done.

You'll be missed by so many
No one can take your place
Your work, your wit, your humor,
And your smiling caring face.

We'll cherish all the memories
You were one of our treasured flowers
And we'll be forever grateful
That God let your path cross ours.

Special Thanks To all my friends at Chardonnay: My Family and I want to thank all our friends for their kindness and beautiful words you all have said and sent to us. Betty and I have been very proud to be part of this community. Thanks again and may God bless all of you!!!
Love Ned Barnes and Family

FROM TRULIN MULLINS & FAMILY

We would like to thank the Chardonnay community for their thoughts and prayers during our time of need. There has been a tremendous amount of support through cards, phone calls
and prayers that is a true testimony to the “loving heart” of this complex.

There are no words that can describe what Chardonnay meant to Adelene. The unity and friendship, as well as “fun” gave Adelene an enlightment of life. The entire family feels truly blessed that Chardonnay has touched our lives.

A special thanks to those who helped with Adelene’s reception. This could not have happened without the help of the wonderful women of Chardonnay.

FROM THE EDITOR

With the loss of our Editor we have a tremendous task to undertake. No one person will be able to perform all accomplished by Adelene. With the help of other volunteers, we will attempt to undertake this job. Please have patience and understanding that we have some very big shoes to fill and our feet are not yet wet.

FROM YOUR SOCIAL COMMITTEE

WOW – There was a hot time in the old clubhouse on Monte Carlo night! There were 33 in attendance and Bob Gray was the lucky winner in our split the pot. It went over so well, we
have been getting requests to do this more often. There were quite a few people that learned how to play Black Jack and Texas Hold’em. Everyone had a great time

THANKSGIVING DINNER

Will be held on Friday November 17th at 6 PM. Your social committee will supply the turkeys, dressing and soft drinks. You are welcome to bring your own bottle or wine. The rest of the dinner will be BRING A DISH TO SHARE. We will also have a box set out in the hallway to collect can goods for the less fortunate.

Last month I failed to mention that we’ve discontinued the pinochle night due to lack of participation. So if your one of
the few that enjoyed pinochle, it still can be played on game night, which is the second Tuesday of each month.

Thank you and have a great Thanksgiving!

Pat Rummel –Social Committee
Chairperson

THANKS TO THE VOLUNTEERS

I know when you think of your social committee you think of the eight women on the committee, but I feel I need to recognize all our men that step up and give their help and time without hesitation. Without their help we would not have been able to pull off the pool opening, pool closing, the Monte Carlo night, and the auction, just to name a few of our events that they were there for us.

I also want to thank the many women that stay and help with the clean up after these events and are always there with their time and talents.

In other words you are the social committee. Without your involvement we would not have a social committee. Our love and thanks to all our social committee.

Social Committee Chairperson
Pat Rummel

FROM THE BOARD

It is with much sorrow, that I am writing this article for the newsletter. This month we said farewell to two special residents of Chardonnay. Adelene Mullins, Editor-In-Chief, of the Grapevine, and Betty Barnes, Past Chair of the Social Committee and the Welcome Committee. This was not the only thing that they did for the community. There were so many, many ways that they served the residents of Chardonnay. I’m sure that most of you who knew Adelene and Betty all have a special story that you could share that would demonstrate how much of their time and commitment they gave to Chardonnay. Their welcoming and warm spirits are truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing these great ladies.

Truly, fall has arrived and winter is just around the corner!! The colorful fall foliage on the trees is certainly a reminder that winter will be here shortly. And also, as a reminder, we all need to think about preparing for the colder weather. The outside faucets should be turned off and the inside water valve should also be closed. Garden hoses should be drained of any water and stored away, to prevent frozen water damage.

November of each year, the board appoints a nominating committee to present a slate of candidates for election to the Board of Directors. EVERYONE who lives in the community should give consideration to how they can personally contribute to the success of Chardonnay. It takes the time and commitment of many to keep things running smoothly. During the next month, a committee member may be calling to ask for your help. Please think about giving some of your time in serving on the Board or on a committee next year. It helps to have new people contribute their thoughts and ideas for the good of the community. Don’t be afraid to help out!!!

Gerrie Kortekamp, Secretary

A CALL TO ARMS – “YOURS”
Did you know that there are many people who live in your community who work behind the scenes, without remuneration, without kudos, without much gratitude, just so this place we call home can be one of the best condominium communities in Northern Kentucky? These “faithful few” have saved this community many dollars, thus making Chardonnay one of the lowest-fee communities around.

These few men and women have saved you and me over $50,000 in the past three years – money we would have to cover by raising the monthly fee – if these folk did not give of themselves to do the landscape work, repair work, getting a monthly announcement sheet to everyone, etc.

The truth is, folks, that if we want to keep our monthly fee low, and we want to keep our community looking so nice and so well repaired, we need more help. The arms of these people are getting tired. And, in this past month, two people who were so helpful to our community and worked on the odd jobs that we haven’t had to pay for because of their willingness to help, have passed on, and have left a hole not only in our lives, but in our resources.

You may be saying: “I can’t use a hammer, or dig a hole, or throw stones around the air conditioning units.” You don’t have to be strong in that way, but can you wash a window – we save a few hundred dollars each year because a few members of the community show up to clean the clubhouse from top to bottom. Can you dig a small hole and put a small plant in it? We save landscaping fees over and above our landscape maintenance because your neighbors who love flowers spend time to add to what the paid landscapers do. Can you walk around the streets once a week and pick up trash that your not-so-sensitive neighbors have left behind? Can you squirt a hose during the summer months when the grass turns brown?

This community thrives because of its volunteers. If you want to become part of our community volunteer list – no matter what you think you can do to help, please call me, talk to me, and I’ll let you know how little is involved for you to do in order to help. Please let us use your “arms.”

A SPECIAL THANK YOU

The Board, Editor and all of the Chardonnay residents give a special “Thanks” to Peggy Mullins for her help in getting this month’s and previous month’s Newsletters published. Without her help much would not have been accomplished.

Mr. Chardy,

I am unable to attend our community board meetings, but I still want to have input into the future direction of our community. Any suggestions?

Good Question! You can always call or contact any of the board members with your thoughts and suggestions or to ask a question. You can find the board members names and contact numbers at the end each newsletter. November 2, is the next board meeting and the 2007 budget will be discussed and voted on.

February is the month for our annual meeting. This is a very important meeting and everyone is encouraged the attend. We will be voting for 2 new board members..
