My wife, Judi and I have been residents of Chardonnay since June 2001. During that time I served on the Social Committee for two years and chaired the Architectural and Maintenance Committee for two years. I am a Civil/Environmental Engineer. I retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 2001 after 30 years of service. Highlights of my career were cleanup in San Francisco after the Loma Pierta Earthquake in 1989 and in South Florida after Hurricane Andrew. When I retired, I was in charge of acid mine remediation in a 17-state area. I also served six years in the Army and retired as a Captain in the Ohio National Guard. I graduated from Rutgers University in Civil Engineering in 1968 and in Environmental Engineering in 1972. I also completed the course work for an Environmental Engineer from the University of Cincinnati in 1996. I grew up in Kenya where my parents were missionaries and where I went to boarding school. I married my high school sweetheart in 1966 and let her work my way through college. Judi and I have 3 children and 12 grandchildren. We moved to Cincinnati in 1975 and have lived in the area for 30 years. I believe Chardonnay is a wonderful place to live with a host of interesting and friendly neighbors and I want to do my part in keeping it that way. Rules should be kept to a minimum but those that we have should be enforced or changed but never ignored. The association government should be open with procedures clear to all. We should strive to keep assessments to a minimum while maintaining a high quality of life and meeting the needs of the residents. |
I have served the Chardonnay community ever since Kathy and I moved to Chardonnay over 4-1/2 years ago. I first served as a member of a committee to look into the financial status of the Chardonnay Association. I was then asked by Fischer Builders, during the development period, to serve on the Chardonnay Board of Directors. While serving I helped the board with the transition from Fischer control to owner control. I was elected to the first owner board of directors and have served as President of the board for a two-year term. In the leadership role, with the board, we have been able to improve and maintain the Chardonnay community. This has been done by keeping the financial structure for Chardonnay solid with minimal increase in costs and Condo fees. I want to continue to help make Chardonnay a place that our owners really enjoy and are proud to call it their home. I also want to continue helping improve our community so that the property values grow and other people want to live here when the opportunity presents itself. Thus I am seeking another two-year term on the Chardonnay Board of Directors.

I have lived in Alexandria, Kentucky all of my life until I moved to Chardonnay in 2002. I am a widow of eleven years, have four children and six grandchildren. I belong to St. Mary’s Parish in Alexandria – attended St. Mary’s Elementary and High School (now Bishop Brossart). I also attended the St. Elizabeth Hospital’s School of Nursing. My career as a registered nurse began in 1957 and since then, I have been employed by St. Luke Hospital. Over the years, I have worked in many departments. For the past 24 years to present time I have been in Out Patient Oncology. The committees that I have served on are Health or Quality Improvement related. Currently, my volunteer work consists of Parish Health Nurse, Aronoff Center usher and St. Mary School. I am currently serving Chardonnay by being Co-Chairperson of the Social Committee, Vice President of the Association’s Ladies Auxiliary (Chain Gang), and a committee member of the Architectural and Maintenance Committee. Since I feel everyone, at sometime, is obligated to contribute to their community, I am willing to serve on the Board if elected. I hope the new board will continue to build on the firm foundation established by our previous boards by preserving our surroundings, promoting a caring community and a mindful stewardship of funds. I am willing to learn, look at both sides of problems and make decisions fair to all owners. DON’T FORGET TO VOTE FOR 3 CANDIDATES FOR THE BOARD AT THE ANNUAL OWNERS’ MEETING ON FEBRUARY 7, 2006 AT 7:30 PM AT THE ELKS CLUB IN COLD SPRING. |
I have been married to my husband Bob for 51 years. I am the mother of two children, Kathy & Doug, and the grandmother of Christy who is a junior at the University of Florida, Sarah, a junior at Highlands High School, Ashley, a freshman at Dixie High School and Brittany who is in the seventh grade at Summit. I retired after 40 years with The Provident Bank where I was the operation manager of the Installment Loan Department and I spent the last 20 years in the Bank Branch System where I was Assistant Manager of the second largest branch. I was named an officer (Asst. Treasurer) of the bank in the late 70’s. During my career I took many courses at the American Institute of Banking, Xavier, UC, and lots of in-house classes to make myself a more valuable and better-equipped employee. I have been a resident of Chardonnay for three years, and I am presently a member of the Architectural Committee and the Social Committee. I am also co-coordinator of the clubhouse and I was the Roving Reporter for the Grapevine. A couple of years ago I began giving crochet classes in my home (the group grew and now meets at the clubhouse each Monday) and we named ourselves The Chain Gang. We are now an auxiliary of the Chardonnay Board of Directors, and I am the president of the group. We have raised funds and were able to purchase a table, dishes for 40, tablecloths, and table decorations for the clubhouse and we recently purchased Christmas decorations for the front entrance. It is my desire and intention to do whatever I can to keep the Chardonnay image and to keep this a desirable place to live. It is also my intent to represent the owners and seek to please the majority although it might not be my personal preference. I believe that you have to be involved and be out among the residents to know what is going on and what the people want. I am a hard worker in the community, and I will appreciate your consideration when you cast your vote. |

| FROM THE BOARD During a recent meeting of “Meet The Candidates” at the clubhouse, the subject of “How can we get more of the owners to attend our Bi-Monthly Board Meetings” was explored. Since it is in every owner’s best interest to know what changes the Board is considering, I would think that they would try to attend the meetings. However, I am sure that many owners are unable to attend for various reasons, such as work, church or other priorities. With this in mind, I ask every owner to consider what changes in the Board’s scheduled meetings could be made that would enable you to attend. For example, if the Board would meet at 8 pm instead of 7 pm, would this help you? Or, if they met on Tuesday or Thursday, would this help you? If you are an owner that would be able to attend more meetings by such a change, please let one of the Board members know. All of the Board member’s telephone numbers and email addresses are listed on the last page of every Grapevine. If no changes would help you to attend, please let one of the Board members know of any suggestions you have for changes or improvements to the Community. As owners, we should all take an interest in the way our community is run and we all have a right to have our ideas considered. We have all made a large investment in this community and we should protect that investment to keep it from deteriorating. Since this is the last opportunity I will have to write an article as a member of the Board, I would like to thank all of the owners that voted for me to be a member of the Board. I would also like to thank all of the Board members that I have served with for their kindness and consideration of my ideas and opinions. Jim Smalley, Vice President SOCIAL COMMITTEE The regular activity nights (bingo, bridge, games, euchre) will return for January. Keep Friday January 20 open for a big WELCOME BACK party for those residents
in the 1400 building who were not in their homes for a time due to the
fire. We want them to know they were missed. PUZZLE Answer to last month’s puzzle was: Anagram of three states, Utah,
Kansas, and Oklahoma. |
THANKS
Many thanks to the following: Ladies Auxiliary (Chain Gang) for purchasing the Christmas Decorations at the entrance to our community. It has certainly put us all in the Christmas Spirit. Bob Wheeler and David Trowbridge for installing the display. It wasn’t easy putting this up in the cold weather, but they did a fine job. Social Committee for hosting a great Christmas Party. It was lots of fun for 46 residents and the clubhouse was decorated beautifully. Ladies Luncheon Committee for an excellent luncheon with 36 ladies enjoying the food and fun. Sister Maddalena wants to thank everyone for all of the food donated to the Parish Pantry at St. Bernard in Dayton, Kentucky. It sure added to the Thanksgiving dinner of many people. Mary and Joe Gates delivered the food that was donated by our residents.
