FROM THE BOARDWhile attempting to pull together a report for the December edition of the Grapevine, I realized that each of the other board members have already covered all of the pertinent up-to-date information and I had little to add. I will report though that the exterior painting of buildings 1, 2, 3 and 17 will be completed this winter. When I accepted the position as an interim board member, my first responsibility was to assign captains from each building to perform the task of replacing light bulbs in the common areas of our terrace buildings and water maintenance throughout the community. I would like to thank all of the captains who volunteer their time and effort and commend them for the visual result. I don’t know that we always realize the dedication of these individuals and the end result of their volunteer efforts. The well-lighted common areas and aesthetic landscape contribute to the safety and wellbeing of all our Chardonnay residents. As noted in the last Grapevine, November of each year the board appoints a nominating committee consisting of three homeowners to present a list of candidates for nomination for election to the Homeowners Board of Directors. This year, two board members will be elected in January for a two year term. One or more of the nominating committee members will be making phone calls within the next several weeks to determine the interest of some prospective persons who may be interested in serving on the board. Please give serious thought to serving if you are asked or if you are interested, please contact one of the nominating committee members. They are Geri Kortekamp, 442-5116, Anne Kendall, 781-5451 or Jim Remley, 441-7441. It has come to the attention of the board that some young people in our community feel that Chardonnay is not a nice place to live. They feel that old people make up the rules, run off the young and do not make them feel welcome. I hope that there are only a few who feel this way. The main function of this board, or any homeowner association board, is to address the concerns of all residents as a whole, not to dominate or control. The rules/by-laws apply to all of us. The authority to make rules or changes in those rules does not always come easy. This requires a lot of discussion and then presentation at the board meetings. The older residents can only dominate if the younger residents choose to ignore their rights to be heard, hold a seat, or show interest either directly or indirectly by attending board meetings. Each issue or concern is discussed and decisions are made, as a whole, for the good of all. Flexibility, changes, re-thinking, rewriting the rules/by-laws in the best interest of Chardonnay is always an open issue. Jim Remley Member At Large Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS PARTYIf you have never attended the community Christmas party, you have then missed the highlight of the Chardonnay “events” season. This year, our get-together will be held on Friday, December 15th at 7:00 pm. Mark your calendar. NOW!!!! I know you’re wondering what makes this party so special. Well, each year we have a “Yankee Christmas Gift Exchange.” Have you ever participated in this lively event? If you have then you know why year after year your neighbors keep coming back for the fun. In order to make the Yankee Gift Exchange work, you need to bring a gift of $5 value – NO GAG GIFTS – and you’re ready to play. If you can, also bring an appetizer to share – but don’t let the lack of either keep you from enjoying the party. For the Social Committee – Judi Hahn
CHAIN GANG CHRISTMAS LUNCHEONJust a reminder to the women of the community to make your reservations for the Women’s Gala Christmas Luncheon on Monday, December 11, at noon. Cost is $10.00 and bring a $5.00 ornament for an exchange gift. Seating is limited, so make your reservation now with Nancy Trowbridge, 442-0244 or Pat Malloy, 781-7171. This is a gala event that you do not want to miss. |

| CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS
I would like to take this opportunity to thank so many people for all their help with the seasonal decorations. It’s great to have a friend with a truck like Richard Archambault. He hauled to straw and corn stalks for the fall decorations and also went with me to pick up the lumber to make the manger. We need to thank Evie Smith for the nativity set with Joseph, Mary and the Baby. Thanks to 4 of the wives, Pat Malloy, Nancy Trowbridge, Kathy Frambes & Rhoda Wheeler who bought the animals for their husbands sweetest day presents. David Trowbridge made the manger and helped to install the decorations. Others who offered to help by making donations toward the purchase of decorations were Rhoda Frankerl, Ned Barnes and David & Eleanor Clem. All of the beautiful bows were made by Julie Klaene. A special thanks to the Chain Gang for their generous donation of $300.00 to purchase wreaths, candles, etc. for the clubhouse. Joe & Pat Malloy , Lola Bennett , Julie Klaene and myself installed the clubhouse decorations. Thanks to Dave Bauman for replacing the big rock at the Chardonnay entrance and thanks to Bob & Jane Gray for the use of their attic in their garage for storage. If I have forgotten anyone I am sorry. Dave & Nancy have been a lot of help. Their suggestions and work in our community are appreciated. I hope everyone enjoys the decorations and has a wonderful Holiday Season. Respectfully submitted, Bob Wheeler
HALLOWEEN PARTY The weatherman sort of put a damper on our Halloween party but a fun time was had by all that did attend. Bob and Rhoda Wheeler won the best costume contest. Barb Culp (of all people) won the prize for drawing a pumpkin blindly with the paper on her head. For those of you that didn’t attend, you missed the highlight of the evening, when bobbing for apples, one member lost their hairpiece and another, their dentures. |
SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS
This past month we observed Veteran’s Day. Although it was not on our monthly calendar, day–in and day-out, we salute all Veterans for their service and sacrifice for our country.
Due to everyone’s busy schedule, Euchre and Bridge nights have
been canceled for the month of December. They will resume in January
with Euchre being the 3rd
A great big thanks goes out to all who participated in the Craft Show at St. Joes’. We had fudge, cookies, brownies, buckeyes, and corn crispies thanks to Freda, Jane, Betty and Delores. Even our four legged friends got homemade treats from Pat. These, plus all the handmade crafts by members of the Chain Gang, Rhoda, Barb, Helen, Pat, Evie, Betty, Marge,Lola, Nancy, Julie and our beloved Adeline, were great money makers. Thanks to Gail who donated a lot of materials used in making some of the crafts. The Chain Gang is a big part of Chardonnay. Every lady in our neighborhood should take a couple hours out of their day on Monday to relax, sew (if you want) or just have a fun gab session. The door is open to all the ladies from 12:30 pm – 2:20 or 3 o’clock. Come on down!!! The Chain Gang is seeking donations to incorporate a memory lane to our new proposed patio along side the pool area. This is going to be a lovely area for folks to meet, sun, eat, read, etc. They are going to have bricks incorporated into the patio in remembrance to our loved ones that have passed away. These will be added as needed. We are searching for ways to raise funds to support this project. If you are willing to donate cash to the memorial fund please contact: Nancy Trowbridge (442-0244)., Rhoda Wheeler (441-6185) or Barb Culp (781-6910). JANUARY CUTOFF DATE The cutoff date for input to January’s Grapevine will be December 23. Please mark you calendars accordingly.. |
MONTHLY DINNER Contact either Rhoda Frankerl (781-0555) or Mary Gerhardstein (441-8510) for reservations. This months’ dinner will be held at the Greyhound Grill in Ft. Mitchell at 6:00 PM.
(1) What happened in 1961 that will not happen again for another 4003 years? (2) A man wanted to enter an exclusive club but did not know the password that was required. A club member knocked on the door and the doorman said, “twelve.” The member replied “six” and was let in. A second member came to the door and the doorman said, “six.” The member replied, “three” and was let in. The man thought he had heard enough and walked up to the door. The doorman said, “ten” and the man replied, “five”. But he was not let in. What should he have said?
