THREE, TWO, ONE

Three crosses could be seen one day
Outlined against the sky;
Three crosses put there for one use
Three people had to die.
Two thieves were hanged upon them there
Two thieves who both had sinned
One unrepentant for his crime,
The other sad within.
Our Savior hanged between these two.
He had done nothing wrong,
But love for others hanged Him there
His love so rich and strong.

FROM THE BOARD

Thanks to those who voted for me. I appreciate your confidence and offers of support. The first meeting of the new Board went well. Those who could not attend missed much information and delicious cake.

Many thanks to Jim Smalley and Chuck Gerhardstein who served the Board the past two years, spending many hours in meetings setting the ground work we now enjoy.

Dave Trowbridge has accepted the chair of the Architect and Maintenance committee. He has obtained and put together the three benches we now see in place. The installation of the irrigation system in the Gazebo-Clubhouse area is underway. The street acceptance by Cold Spring seems to be making acceptable progress.

When I am out an about and people ask where I live they say, “I hear Chardonnay is a great place to live with so many activities and friendly people. I wish our place was like that.” We have a good reputation in our surrounding communities, which is a compliment and only adds to our investment.

The energy and development of our community thrives due to involvement of many volunteers. The Board, members of six committees, Grapevine editor, Clubhouse Coordinator, Ladies Auxiliary (Chain Gang), and Building Captains make our world go round.

Volunteering can be a source of making new friends, learning new skills or just a new experience. It can be accomplished in as little as an hour or as much time as you have. There are many opportunities such as: help your building captain water the landscape this summer. The Landscape Committee will soon need help planting the flowers for summer. We already see the tulips appearing that were planted last fall. Those of you who enjoy the sun and water would be welcomed on the pool committee. Submit ideas, report needed maintenance areas, join any committee, and support all community activities.

A creative can-do spirit strengthens and enriches every community and increases joy in living. Do you find where you can contribute? I’m waiting to hear from you 442-5883.

Marge Rauch, Vice President

Hello Friends and Neighbors! Remember me?

I was first introduced to you in May 2003 before your newsletter was named The Grapevine. Due to retirement, I haven’t surfaced for awhile. However, I have been commissioned to write a monthly column for The Grapevine.

DO NOT LITTER – PLEASE.

I look forward to meeting with you again next month. In the meantime if you have a question, please call the editor (441-8287) and maybe you will get an answer.

Dear Mr. Chardy:

Could you please identify the resident(s) that are tossing litter on our streets and lawns?

Answer: Now I couldn’t believe that any of our residents would litter this beautiful community so I took a little stroll over a couple streets and came back with a bag full of trash. Listed below is what I found.

Newspapers –Please do not leave newspapers on the porch, lawn, and/or driveway. Even if the newspaper comes to you without a subscription, please put in the trash. If you are going away for a period of time, either stop your subscription or have a neighbor collect them for you.

Dog Feces – One whole area was full of this – please pick up after your dog. If you are reported, you could be fined $50.00. On one porch, I found a bag with dog feces – please use the dumpster. It doesn’t do the community any good if you pick it up and leave it on your porch.

Broken Plastic Cups – Pieces were scattered on the sidewalk and street. Again, Use the dumpster. Fast food containers were not meant to be scattered on the lawn. The dumpster is begging for items such as this.

Used tissues, paper scraps, and the worst of all are CIGARETTE BUTTS. They are scattered all over the community. If you are inside, use an ash
tray – even cars have ashtrays. DO NOT TOSS
them over the balcony or patio and out your car windows.

Chardonnay is a beautiful community. Let’s keep it that way.

POSIES PAST THEIR PRIME??

Calling all neighbors who might be enjoying gifts of spring bulbs in the next few months. Once your posies aren’t so perfect and you’re thinking it would be a waste to just toss them out – think of your Landscape Committee. We would be happy to have your already enjoyed daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, lilies and the like to recycle into the ground so they can be enjoyed again next year. Please drop off your past prime pots in front of the garage door at 1012 Monterey Lane (The Maggards). Thanks!!

Beth Maggard, Landscape Chairperson

TO THE COMMUNITY OF CHARDONNAY

I have resigned from the Board of Directors here at Chardonnay. I deeply regret this decision and it saddens me. I have worked with such good people, all of them, the past 2-1/2 years being voted onto the board by this great community twice. I must give 110% to caring for my wife, Betty. Thus I feel I can’t give the board and the community the 100%as needed. I am also leaving the Social and Pool Committees. I suggest that all of you owners get involved with some committee or run for the board.

Thank you all for the support and May God bless this Chardonnay Community and all of its owners.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN
A PAINTING CLASS?

I will try to form an Art Painting Group at Chardonnay if enough people are interested. The painting group will use watercolors or acrylic paints. The time would be once a week about two hours per session – either AM or PM.

I am not a professional artist, but I have some formal training at Thomas More and three years at Baker-Hunt. I was in the Thomas More Art Show and went to New York with their art group. My paintings were shown at Baker-Hunt and at the Ft. Thomas Library. I instructed an Art Painting Group at the Senior Center (Lakeside) for many years and did some work at the V. A. Nursing Home in Ft. Thomas.

Painting can be a lot of fun – there is no limit to the challenge nor does anyone ever fail in Art. Painting is an activity that one can do at any age. People with no hands can paint with their toes. People with no arms or legs can paint using their mouth to hold a paintbrush and can do beautiful work.

There may be a Grandma or Grandpa Moses living at Chardonnay. Call 781-5745 if interested.

Ken Allen

RECYCLING

Anyone interested in recycling can drop off their paper at the Cold Spring Library. There is a receptacle in front of the building. This is for paper only – NO CARDBOARD, CEREAL BOXES, ETC.

ILLNESS

It seems that Chardonnay is having more than its share of illness lately. We have had at least nine in and out of the hospital during the past month. They are: Betty Barnes, Joyce Cates, Ruth Cobb, Betty Geiman, Jane Gray, Gail Hewitt, Anne Kendall, Betty Kremer, and Joe Malloy. Our prayers are with all of you and we wish you a very speedy recovery.

ACTIVITIES

Don’t forget the Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 1 starting at 9 AM. Sponsored by the Chardonnay’s Ladies Auxiliary (Chain Gang).

Monthly dinner will be April 4 at 5:30 PM at the Green Derby. For reservations, please call Rhoda Frankerl (781-0555) or Mary Gerhardstein (441-8510).

For those who play Bridge, there will only be one night this month. April 10th has been cancelled, but please plan to join the gang on April 24th.

THANKS

I want to thank everyone for their thoughts, cards, and prayers during my recent illness.

Betty Kremer

ST. PATRICK’S PARTY

Twenty-three people celebrated St. Patrick’s Party on March 17th at the clubhouse. Everyone had a great time and the food was delicious.

Pat Rummel read a poem “An Irish Blessing”. Mary Gerhardstein introduced one of her famous games (how about the green underwear). She gave five gifts of lottery tickets, but no one won any money.

Adelene and Trulin were the best (or worst) dressed. If you weren’t there, you don’t know what you missed.
