Board Notes
by Bill Frambes
After a tougher than normal winter and a very wet spring we have moved into summer with some very nice weather. While the seasons have come and gone your Chardonnay Board of Directors has been very busy.

Under the direction of our current board, last years board has stayed together as an Ad Hoc committee to complete the work on the new Welcome Book. Marge Rauch has chaired this committee and the committee has spent in excess of 150 hours in completing this project. It could not have been possible to complete this project had we not had the help of some owners working with the committee for ideas and council. Also, Ron Culp has spent many hours working with Marge on getting the book put into the computer as a full document with the many changes made by the committee. A big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the success of this large project.

We will have the book ready to deliver to all owners by early July. The new book will be put into the current Chardonnay community telephone book that was distributed to all owners about a year ago. When you receive the book please take time to look through the book and use it as a reference for how the community is structured and operates.

We will be painting 3 buildings this summer starting in July. They are 900-914 Monterey, 1400-1402 Napa Valley and 1500-1502 Trelis. Notices will be put on the front doors about a week before the painting starts. The fence located behind Furniture Fair will be cleaned and seal by the same painting crew. The Clubhouse will be touched up in areas where it is needed as well.

The extension of the water sprinkling system on Chardonnay Drive up to Napa Valley is currently being installed. The purchase of an electric maintenance cart has already proved its worth in the time and money it has saved for our volunteers and the community. This is but a few of the items that are completed, in progress or being planned for our community.

It was wonderful to see over 30 owners at our last Chardonnay Board meeting. It is only with this type of participation that we can continue to be one of the best communities in Northern Kentucky.

I want to say to all owners who give back to our community in many ways, THANK YOU for a GREAT JOB. Your support and efforts go a long way in reducing our cost of operation and making our community a wonderful place to call home.

Chardonnay Homeowner Receives Florence Nightingale Award For Nursing
by Madeline Ruf

Loretta Hall, a nurse at St. Luke Hospital East who resides with her husband Carlis on Napa Valley, was named one of the recipients of the prestigious Florence Nightingale Award for 2008. Her nomination write up was as follows: “She is described as warm, friendly, respectful, loyal and dependable. As a staff nurse in the nursery, she has helped many anxious first-time parents relax and enjoy the experience of learning to care for their newborn. Having taught childbirth classes since 1980, she is already familiar with many of those parents-to-be by the time they arrive at the hospital for delivery. She also chairs the Birthing Center’s Bereavement Committee and plays a major role in the health ministry performed through St. Luke at her church, Grants Lick Baptist.” Congratulations Loretta and thanks for your dedication to the nursing profession.

Grapevine Tidbits
by Mary Gerhardstein

We welcome three new neighbors to our community Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Hehl, Mrs. Lois Reeves and Mr. Steve Goetz. Welcome!!!

June 17th we had our monthly euchre gathering. There were three winners: 1st - Ken Allen, 2nd - Randy Spangler and 3rd - Jerry Lehkamp. We had some good laughs and a lot of fun. During July and August we will not have euchre because of vacations and other outdoor activities. We will resume euchre in September. Euchre is always the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Mark your calendar for September 16th when we get started again.

Speaking of cards: Bridge is the 4th Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Bridge will be played during the summer. The next two bridge dates are July 28 and August 25. Games, of course, are at the clubhouse.

Spring Cleaning: On the 31st of May, some of the Chardonnay seniors gathered and did some spring cleaning at the club house. The windows and screens were washed, the refrigerator cleaned, cobwebs chased, furniture cleaned, woodwork and table and chairs washed.
If you see a shiny glow from the clubhouse it is not a UFO, it is the results of a lot senior elves here at Chardonnay.

Many thanks to those who helped.

The Pool Is Cool

Now that the hot days of summer are here be glad that we have our pool to help keep us cool during these sweltering days. Come on out and meet your “cool” neighbors and dip a toe or your head in the nice cool water.

Notes from the pool committee:
Please, please, please return the umbrellas to the closed position when you leave the pool area. If you notice an umbrella that someone else forgot to close, please close it. We have lost several umbrellas already due to the wind
grabbing them and breaking them. At least one was lost overnight during a storm. We hope you enjoy the pool season. Please note the new hours are 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The early hours were set up for those whose work schedules had interfered with the old posted hours. Please be considerate of the pool neighbors who do sleep until the former 9 a.m. hour. If you have suggestions please call Judi Hahn at 781-6329.

From Your Social Committee

Thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed our Memorial Day weekend and flag raising. As usual we had lots of eats and good times with all our friends. We have some fun events planned this year so we hope to see more and more of you attending.

On June 27th, we had Trivia night. Since this article had to get into the newsletter before this night I will assume that we all had a great time!

July 20th, Fashion Show – Sorry guys, but Ladies Only! Sunday afternoon starting at 12:30 p.m. until whenever we get finished. We are having Dress Barn come in and supply us with the fashions. We will have models from Chardonnay. A very nice luncheon is planned with drinks and desert. There will be favors for each one of our ladies and some one from each table will win a gift. There will also be a few door prizes. The cost will be $8.00 per person. Reservations will be taken on July 8th, at the clubhouse from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Since there will be limited seating, Chardonnay residents will have precedence. We will open this to family and friends, who will go on a waiting list should there be room for non-residents. The cut off time for Chardonnay residents will be July 15th, so we may start contacting people on the waiting list. Also, if you cannot make it to the clubhouse on that day you may call Pat Rummel at
441-1088 to make your reservation and payment arrangement.

This will be a very nice afternoon. Hope to see you there!

August 15th, Friday at 7:00 p.m. – Auction Time!

As most of you know, we had an auction two years ago and it was great. We’ll be calling to see if there’s anything you want to donate. Now’s the time to clean out your closets and garages. We’ll take big and small items. Anything donated that doesn’t sell, will be given to a charity unless you specify that you want it back. Pat Rummel will be in charge of picking up your items, please call 441-1088 to arrange a time. We will also open the clubhouse for drop off of your donations on August 11th, Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. As before, with this event or any of our events, all the money made goes back into our community. So please help us make this a success!

September 1st – Pool Closing fun.

10:00 AM brunch so bring a dish to share. We will have games, the cakewalk, bingo, entertainment, split the pot and door prizes. Dinner will be at 5:00 PM with meat furnished by the Social Committee. Please bring a dish to share. See you there!

One last item is a request for anyone interested in joining the social committee to please contact Pat Rummel at 441-1088. We try to have a monthly event and this requires a small amount of your time. WE NEED YOU!

Thank you for your support.
Pat Rummel, Social Committee Chairperson

SCRAPBOOKING

Anyone interested in scrapbooking, either learning how to do it, or just wanting to have time to spend with others in our community who scrapbook, we would welcome you to our monthly get togethers. And during the summer we will have a children's table available.

We meet the first Monday of the month (unless it's a holiday), and in July, August, and September, we will not be working on any specific projects. We will just be putting our pictures in books, or organizing all those summer picnic photos. In October we will start our Christmas card making events, and more information will be forth coming on that.

We would love to have you join us at the Clubhouse, the first Monday of the month (July 7, August 4, September 8) at 7:00 p.m. If you have questions or would like more information on what we do and where to get
supplies, call Judi Hahn at 781-6329.

PHONE BOOK CHANGES

Please make the following changes to your phone book.

REMOVE: Anne Kendall, 302-204 Mendocino
REMOVE: Anne Hemingway, 500 Monterey
ADD: Hehl, Lambert & Pattie, 500 Monterey. 859 441-8328 (Home); bertpat@fuse.net

Many Thanks

Many thanks have to be given to Ron Culp for having served as the Grapevine’s Editor. He did an outstanding job and his services as Editor will be greatly missed. Thanks Ron!

Don’t You Just Love It?

The new sign that is. The one you no doubt recently saw at the end of Chardonnay announcing a Board Meeting. This sign will be used to announce/remind us of other events that we just know you would not miss were it not for your poor memory. Now there’s no excuse so get out and get to know your neighbors. Who knows, you just might have some fun! With gas prices being what they are, the distance you will have to travel certainly is right.

Thanks to the Board for ordering the sign and a special thanks to whomever had the idea!
