FROM THE BOARD

The good old summertime is here. It is what we wished for when everything was covered with ice and snow in February. It has been perfect weather for sun-worshipers and swimmers, even staying warm in the evenings. The grass certainly shows the need for rain, but thanks to all those who faithfully watered to save the trees and shrubs.

Pool opening day had great participation and fun. The new patio was opened and dedicated. The names engraved on the border bricks brought back fond memories and stories of our neighbors who are no longer with us. The new patio furniture was made possible by donations of the Chain-Gang and the Social Committee who donated money made at last year’s auction. The flowers around the patio were from individual donations and are cared for by the Chain-Gang.

The new pool chairman is Bob Wheeler. He is available at the pool most days for questions. Please review the pool rules in your Welcome Book. If you do not have these rules we will gladly supply them. Remember all residents must accompany their guests to the pool and remain there.

Since the last Board meeting the Terrace Hall carpets and exercise room have been cleaned. The entrance tiles in buildings 1 & 2 have been deep cleaned. The Hill behind Monterey Bldgs. 4, 5 & 6 have been cleared of bushes and mowed. The storage building now has skirting around the bottom and landscaping is planned. The Landscaping Committee contracted with Davis Landscaping to replace soil and plant the front entrance. This committee has also been busy planning replacement of trees and shrubs. Some plantings will wait until fall.

Buckets of deodorizer have been placed by the dumpsters. Please use when the dumpster is empty or fluid is evident to help control odors this summer. Painting of buildings 4, 5, 15 &16 will be starting soon.

We have received meager input regarding bird feeders. Some feel our common area is becoming too cluttered. There is still time to comment. Phone numbers and e-mail addresses of the Board are on the last page of the Grapevine.

Thanks to all volunteers who serve our community in any way. You are appreciated.

Have a wonderful summer – see you at the next Board meeting July 19.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Don’t forget to set aside Saturday July 21, at 7:00 PM for our Ice Cream Social at the Clubhouse. Lynn Cameron who is a resident at Chardonnay will be our guest speaker. Lynn has traveled extensively and will share some of his experiences with us. I am sure this will be a delightful evening. Come join us for a tasty and interesting evening.

NEW POOL SEASON

Now that the warm weather has arrived and the pool is open for your enjoyment, it may be a good time to revue the current pool rules. It seems there are a few who either do not know the rules or choose to ignore them. Here are some of the complaints we are receiving of rules being broken:
• If you have guests using the pool, you must accompany them. This does not mean give them your key and return later.
• Umbrellas are to be closed when leaving the pool.
• No Glass containers in pool area.
• The last resident leaving the pool must see that the gate and the restroom doors are locked.
• Two (2) guests per day per household is the limit on weekends and holidays. Six (6) guests during the week.

Please review your “Welcome Book” for all the rules and regulations, so we all have a good summer.

IT’S HAPPENING AGAIN

The Wednesday night happenings are now back. At 6:00 pm every Wednesday you can gather at the Clubhouse Patio for a get-together. Everyone is welcome to come and join in a night of socializing. Just bring whatever you would like to have off the grill and another dish to share. We meet, rain or shine, and always have lots of good eats and fun. SEE YOU ON WEDNESDAY!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA

On July 4, 1776 we claimed our independence from Britain and Democracy was born. Every day thousands leave their homeland to come to the “land of the free and the home of the brave” so they can begin their American Dream.

The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people. Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate that freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics and family gatherings.
